The Children and Elders Forest is an organization that gets together groups of children and elder teams. Each children and elder team sponsors a tree to be planted in a grove in Bloomington Normal. The teams consist of at least one child and one elder. Many teams are a grandparent and a child. Other teams are much larger and are made up of the children of a group or club and their elder leaders.
The Children and Elders Forest started in 2005 and we are still going strong today with 6 groves being planted in the Bloomington Normal area. Our first grove, Turtle Grove, is completed and consists of 95 trees of 20 different indigenous species. Turtle Grove is located in Maxwell Park. Windrow Grove consists of 36 trees and is located by the Interstate Center. Eagle grove which has 110 trees is located north of Turtle Grove also in Maxwell Park. Winter Hill Grove is located in Ewing III. Also know as "sledding hill". All the trees are cared for by the Bloomington Parks and Recreation and Normal Parks and Recreation.
