That's interesting... over the course of this semester I've grown to like the feeling of hair being tugged on, especially in the back of my head, behind my ears. I noticed that's where a lot of trichtitillomaniacs like to mess with too... maybe I have tendencies.

Hello Tarshabear, I just registerred so I could share my story with you. Ive been exhibiting extreme signs of trichotillomania for the past year, to the point I wear my hair at such a weird part, its always better to put it up. I have recently began seeking therapy. I havent actually attended a session yet, in fact, just started researching today. My research states that as many as 6-8 million americans have trichotillomania. It can be treated with behavioral therapy and medication. I am 20 years old and live alone, so I am seeking a cheaper form of therapy. I will be starting art therapy as soon as they can get me in. I do not have Rapunzel therapy, but I do bite the roots of the hair. Its so awkward and scary actually saying it out loud. No one even knew about my disorders until just recently. I have had other OCD symptoms from as early as age 12. Ive never seeked treatment, but the trichotillomania is getting so out of hand. I can feel myself spiraling down and its scary. So, I sympathize with you... Ultimately, I would tell you, start calling places for mental health screenings. If you are young and still live with your parents, sit them down and explain to them that your OCD is an actual disease and you need treatment. Ive waited a year for control, and its only gotten worse. I dont think I personally can overcome without treatment. I suggest you research. I will bookmark this page and come back and reply if you want to talk. Post edited at 1:43 pm on May 8, 2008 by Robini
