Woah, chill out people. Green Day are/were kinda punk. True they were pop-punk, but consider this; if only a handfull of people had heard greenday playing basket case, they would arguably be considered as one of the best underground acts you'd ever hear. Yes, they sold a lot of CDs and managed to get into the mainstream, that's not a crime. I hear The Clash, Sex Pistols and Ramones playing on my local radio station, in the jukebox of nearly every local bar, it doesn't mean those bands are any less punk. Give green day a break. It's true that their last album is over-played, is hardly punk, and has produced a lot of 'wannabe punks'. But then again, their older material is more punk than any of these pop-punk bands that are around now (International Superhits is, and probably always will be a way better punk album than The Offspring's greatest hits compilation)
