Honestly, you're doing them wrong.

If you have never worked out before there is no way you could do 150 situps continuously.  

I thinky you also may confused on exactly what is a situp and what is a crunch.

First off all, NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, put your hands behind your HEAD when working out. CROSS your arms and lay them across your chest. Putting them behind your head can do serious damage to your neck.
Also, in laying your arms across your chest, you can make it a goal to touch your knees to your elbows each time you go up.
