I bought my computer in September of last year. Now everytime I play music or any sound is coming out of my speakers, it sounds like its skipping and it doesnt stop. So I've basically given up on sound on my computer. But is this a virus or is this some crazy itunes problem or should i take my computer to be fixed? Help! this problem is driving me insane!

Either...
A. You need new speakers.
or...
B. You need a new sound card.
But no, it's not your computer.

Have you tried just plugging some MP3 Headphones in or some other speakers and see if it doesn't jump? IIf it still jumps try this, the driver for your Sound Card may be buggered.:

Try re-installing your Sound Card driver, put the cd in which came with it and install it from there, or go the the Developers website and to the downloads section.

New speakers probably won't do anything. You can try using different speakers to rule them out though.

The problem could be the sound card. You should try re-installing the sound card driver.

If you re-install the sound card driver, and the problem persists.. It's possible, but very unlikely, that the hard drive of the system is failing.

Sure, it's uncommon, but the same symptoms showed on my computer, and that turned out to be the problem.

It doesn\'t sound like she installed the sound card herself. Also, if the sound card wasn\'t compatable with the computer, it never would have worked in the first place.

Turn off the system. Turn it back on, and before you see the Windows screen, press F12.

Key down to Diagnostics, and it\'ll run a quick scan. Once it\'s finished, it\'ll bring you to a screen with a few selections for a diasnostic scan. Select \"Express Test.\"

It test\'s everying in your computer like the video card, sound card, fan, hard drive, etc.

It could help you find out what\'s wrong.

Sounds more like the computer running slowly to me, and causing the music to skip. may just be full of crap, maybe a defrag might help a bit.

Does it skip only in Itunes, or does it do it in WMP and others also? (This is XP, right?)

If it is only Itunes, try:

1) Close iTunes and Quicktime
2) Click the start button
3) Go to the control panel
4) Open Quicktime
5) Select the Audio tab
6) Click on ‘Safe mode (waveOut only)’
7) Click okay. Relaunch iTunes.

Didn't you get warranty?! Call up your PC manufacturer's "Help" Desk and shout at them for a while.

I assume that you have solved your problem by now....
