depending on the size you want to print, generally 6 is good, just for a hobby, but if you want them professional, then atleast 10 effective mega pixels is decent.



As I explained before, megapixels don't matter. Anything above 5 is really fine. A camera is only as good as the glass used for the lens. Don't forget that.

In fact, most compact digital cameras do have Landscape modes, if not scene modes under which there is an option for landscape. I wouldn't go investing in an SLR at this stage, considering the prices, famous last words probably doesn't have that much money to spend.
