Are you seriously that thick?

Find me one scholar of repute who thinks that the Bible was started by one mad man.

Good luck.

Is he saying that scholars support that hypothesis?
Wasn't he just putting out a possibility?

He might have been; the point, however, was that it's an entirely unfounded idea and is simply untrue, that no one who's ever actually studied the Bible, even from a secular standpoint, believes that.

Scholar's don't know who wrote the bible. Nothing that I have ever comes across rules out the idea that it could have been started by a madman.

The possibly that the bible was started by a bunch of people high on ancient drugs. (Yes, they existed.) Has not been discredited. There are people today who get high and claim to have connections with god or a god.

Seems as if you refuse to believe in the possibility that I am right.

To add to this, many ancient prophets have been proven to use drugs (Example: Native American shamans smoking herbs for visions) or to have been exposed to hallucinogens.

But there's no evidence. That's what ER is saying.
Although, the book of revelations sure does provoke one into those thoughts and hypotheses

Yes, but even Prince has pointed out various times throughout the forum that there are other schools of interpretation when analyzing Apocalyptic Writings rather than literal adherence solely.

I do refuse because THERE IS NO EVIDENCE. If there is evidence, show it to me. Bring me scholars who think this way. I'm still waiting on that (though I've accepted that I'll be waiting a long time because those scholars do. not. exist.).

Does the possibility exist that the Bible and the beliefs therein were begun by a handful of crazies? Sure, but it's about as likely as the Bible being started by a unicorn tapdancing on the moon: that is, not at all.

And it's not likely that they were written by people enlightened by the actual creator of the universe either.

"Lack of evidence is not proof of nonexistence." I believe you've told me that a few times.

Again: just as you are not very likely to believe that God exists because no proof exists that satisfies you, I am not likely to believe that the Bible was written by a handful of lunatics, not only because there is no evidence for such a thing, but also because all of the evidence that exists points to the contrary.

What evidence is it that "points to the contrary"?

The oldest manuscripts we have, knowledge of the time period in which they were written (coming from historical evidence and literary styles), etc. Again, it's something that anyone who's studied Biblical history even basically will recognize.

We are talking about one madman here.

The people that came after him may not have been mad, just devout followers inspired by his scriptures. Madness in the sense that he was most probably a very good storyteller. And what you've said doesn't really classify as evidence that the bible wasn't conceived by a madman.
