I can't log in to my computer in normal mode because it reboots right away or gets the blue screen. So I got in with the safe mode. I wanted to install McAfee Antivirus (it's provided for free from my university), but the safe mode says:
"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation"... WTF? I'm the administrator (and even if I wasn't, I'm in the administrator's account)

So, are there ways I can override this? I tried copying all files for the antivirus from my dad's computer, but it says it's missing something (that I can't find). So yeah. Ideas are really really valuable.

No, safe mode prevents the changing of core Windows system files and services, which the Antivirus needs access to. So you can only install it in normal boot mode. You might be able to disconnect the drive and connect it to another computer with McAfee already installed and search is as an external drive for viruses.

Well, it's a laptop. So taking the hard drive out is hard (I could technically do it, as I have done this before, but I'd prefer something less radical). Do you think there is a way I could install the antivirus on a separate external HD and then connect it to the laptop and run it? I tried it with a flash drive and it didn't work...

Start > run > msconfig
Under the general tab, Check "Selective Startup," then uncheck "Load Startup Items".  Click OK.

It'll ask you to restart.  You can do this now or later, however you see fit.  After restarting, the computer will hopefully start up without too much interference from malware and you'll be able to install your software.
