How do you fall asleep?

I always have a really hard time falling asleep, no matter how tired I am. I should be sleeping now, but I'm too lazy to get off the computer, however that works.
Whenever I try to fall asleep my brain seems to completely wake up and go into overdrive thought. And I go over everything that happened during the day, analyze it and then go over everything I'm going to do the next day. Which usually causes a lot of hectic unorganizable thought. Which wakes me up more. Then I get really bored eventually. During the past school year I found myself grabbing my DS and playing Tetris until I practically passed out. Lately I just put on calming dreamland music and that helps.
What do you do?

I just let myself think about whatever's on my mind until I drift off, cuz when you try to make yourself sleep it keeps you conscious.

I listen to my ipod and start randomly thinking about something... and then before I know it I'm waking up 8 hrs later.

When I am about to sleep I put my TV in sleep mode for about 60 to 50 minutes. Of course Jay Leno is on at the time of event.

turn off all the lights, and sounds
and just sit there till i fall asleep

I sit here tired until I am at the point where I can not keep my eyes open any longer. Then I collapse into my bed and literally pass out.

I need to do it to prevent myself from thinking about things...

This might be weird but... I write stories in my head. I've found that's the only way that works because can spend hours trying to think of nothing and still not get to sleep.

When you're tired enough, you just pass out. I don't try to sleep. I just let it come over me, then pass out.
