I'm sorry guys I have never asked or talked about cars in my life! so I have no idea what forum to put it in, i'm sorry if I put it in the wrong one

Okay, So I get my G2 in a few months, and my Nana being rich as she is says that she is buying me my first car (booya!) when I pass my G2 ( as long as I can pay for insurance.... I'm going to need a better job) But anyways.   The college I am applying to and REALLY hope i get accepted to in is London Ontario, that's roughly 3 hours away.

So my question is, in terms of insurance, should I get a new car, or an older car. I asked my friend who has been driving for a while and this is what he told me:

Buying an older car would make the insurance cheaper. BUT Buying a newer car is more worthwhile, because it is less likely to break down ( and since I'll be making 3 hour trips often) quickly or as much, AND since I'm a girl and I did the driving course/classes that will lower my insurance a bit.

So which would be better. older car, cheaper insurance but more chance of breaking down.

                             OR

Newer car, Higher insurance less likely to break down (sooner then later), and just count on the fact that I'm a girl and I am taking the driving course to lower it down.

Also my Paychecks are roughly between 200-300 Dollars bi-weekly. Would that be enough for insurance?

( I would be having a different job because I think I'll be living on campus but just so I know)

2-300 weekly should more than cover insurance, in which case I would recommend going with a new car that is still under warranty. It will be the most cost effective in the long run.
