I've just loaded up my laptop to find that my disc drive keeps popping open. I try to shut it and it just refuses and pops back open. I haven't damaged it in any way that I know of, it's just suddenly acquired this problem.

I tried putting in a disc too but again it just pops back open. When I push in the disc drive, with a disc in or not, it goes to load then just pops back open. Like when I've ran a disc on the laptop and clicked the 'eject' button.

Can anyone advise me on how to fix it and what could possibly be wrong?

Thanks.

This definitely seems like a hardware fault, something may have been trapped inside the housing of the drive which prevents it from closing. You really can't do anything to fix this apart from take it into a repair shop or buy a new drive. :/

It could possibly be a software problem though, so try starting the computer up into the BIOS (by pressing down on the F1 /F2/F3 or F9/F10/F11 - one of those). Then try inserting the disc and see if it closes. If it doesn't it's a hardware problem, if it does then something is wrong with Windows or a background process is trying to do something.
