I do it now and then, if I have to change to a type of deodorant that helps skin condition(heat rashes appear in the darndest places. I just release a lot of heat from the pit region). so if I have to apply medicated deodorant, I trim very close. but usually, I prepare for summer heat by just shaving from the get go, so it doesn't retain that heat as easily.

If a guy is into sports (swimming) then I might think it would be normal. Other than this I would definitely question a guys masculinity if he did.
