Well, my girlfriend is about 5'6" and weighs about 112lbs. She still thinks that she is fat, and wants to lose weight. Im really getting worried about her.

She has always been significantly lighter than most. However, something she told me last night for the first time worries me. She said that whenever she lays down on her back, side, or stomach, her ribs and back hurt from the ground or bed. I think its because she doesnt have any fat to come between her bones and skin, and they are exposed. Im not sure of this, so if anyone has an explanation for this, Id like to know that as well.

My main question is: Does she have an eating disorder in the first place?  If she does, is there anything I can do to help her?

If anyone can help me with this, thank you.

hm. that's a tough one. a lot of girls are just skinny. and a lot of girls think they're fat and say they want to lose weight but they never actually do it. just ask her.

Sounds like she does have an eating disorder sadly... I would say maybe talk about it with her, tell her that you are genuinely worried about her and care about her and do not want to watch her slowly damage herself. If she doesn't listen, maybe tell her parents about it... go from there.

I hope everything works out!!

I would go to the doctor with her, but she is denying that she has a major problem. I need something to convince her that she has a problem first. Once I can do that, she may go to the doctor. But what can I do to get her to admit it?

Call a help line.  It sounds like it might just be a distorted body image, but its better to try and get her some help if it is something.  Talk to her about it.  Ask her if she is eating, make sure she is eating.  If you need to talk, message me.

Sometimes I worry about my gf, too.  She promised me she hasn't/doesn't/won't, but sometimes I just don't know.  Yesterday she felt like throwing up 'cause she ate a meal that had prolly around 420 calories, and the only other thing she ate that day was a piece of bread.  These things hurt, I know, but the only thing you can do is trust them, and maybe try to convince them not to.

dont force her to admit anything. especially when there's a possibility that it's not true. just wait until you have proof.

well it possible that she just has a back problem
it's hard to determine whether she has an anorexia disorder not if she doesn't eat to loose weight then its possible she does
if she is anorexic it's hard to help out the best you can do is let her know she is beautiful and she looks great
get help for her
it's never good to just play it safe and leave things as they are
have you tried and talk to her about it
it might help out a bit

To be honest, how would I know for sure she has an ED? What you really need is talk to her. I feel like you're scared to frighten her or scurry her away. She won't. Yes, at first she might hesitate because eating disorders are very sensitive problems. Be gentle with her and tell her that you care. Tell her that all you want her to be is healthy and you think she is beautiful the way she is.

I don't THINK she has an eating disorder but this is just based on what you've told in your post. It is very common for girls, even thin girls, to feel fat and want to lose weight. Girls are always like that. Have you seen her eating habits? Don't try to force something out of her if she doesn't even have something in the first place. Just let her trust you and let her know you trust her as well.

And you said it hurts her when she lays down? I think she needs a specialist to see this. Like immediately.

If she does have an eating disorder, all you've got to do is support her all the way. Tell her it hurts you that she treats her body the way she treats it.

The thing is that I have tried talking to her. Ive seen her eating habbits also. She checks the calories to EVERYTHING she eats, no matter what. If she has more than 1000 calories, she starts freaking out, saying that she is fat. But she isnt at all. She exercises to the extreme whenever she thinks that she ate too much, then she wont eat must at all for a day or two.

I know talking to her is the best thing that I can do right now, but Ive tried that. I want to know if there is something that I can do to be more helpful to her.
