I have been buying recipe books and it would say stuff like "yields 6 servings... One serving of such and such is this many calories... this many grams of fat" and so on. I was wondering if they don't really tell you how much a serving is, is one serving generally one cup of whatever recipe it is, whether it's soup, some type of salad or even pasta?? thanks!!!!!

A serving means one complete meal to one person.

So if it says 6 servings, the completed amount can fit evenly to 6 people.

but how do we supposed to know in measurements... like one serving... I have no idea what one serving really is.... it can mean filling up your whole plate and intaking so many calories or it can mean like one cup of whatever it is you made as a meal...

one serving isn't really a measured amount, it's more like and average of how much one person would eat. It's usually a lot less than someone would really eath though....like if I make a can of soup that "yeilds three servings," I will probably end up eating the whole thing in one serving instead of eating just a third of it.

i agree with that one. i really think that whole 2000 calories thing is wrong. I mean, it depends on your metabolism and stuff, but watching the skinny people around me it, they definitely have more than 2000 calories.

Well, usually we take it to mean that it's the portion that one person would eat. Usually just an approximation, since you're always welcome to eat more or less depending on your diet. Best way would be to just cook it and find out later, yeah?
