Is it bad to leave a laptop computer on for a long period of time like 10-12 hours? as long as its not over heating is that ok or no?

It's fine. In some cases turning it off and on is bad due to componants heating, cooling and reheating over and over again. This is a issue Nvidia overlooked recently and is likely going to cost them 200+ million dollars in charges from hp + dell.
