I don't think you should have a cat if you don't have a safe garden for it to roam around in

Not everyone has a safe place for their cat to play around in. Should those cats just be put down? I mean, where else would they go that's safe?...

Of course not, but people should not get them in the first place if they can't provide a safe outdoor place for them. Just my opinion

No, I get it, and I don't mind your opinion differing from my own, I just don't understand where all these cats who don't have a safe place to roam are supposed to go. With so many animals already sitting in shelters, it's clear that there just aren't enough places for them so I guess I just think it's better that they be kept indoors and loved rather than put down.

More effort needs to be made in to stopping cats from reproducing so much, I know people who have let their cats have multiple litters. I don't know about shelters where you live but where I live they won't let you have a cat unless you have a garden for it to roam in.

I've never gotten a cat from a shelter so I don't know what they look for, actually.

These shelters would rather keep a cat and put it down than give it to someone without a backyard? That just seems so odd to me but, again, just my thoughts on the matter.

But I agree that people need to better control their pets and not let them have so many offspring. My neighbors are awful...God, at one point, they must have had a few dozen cats, all of which would just run around wherever they pleased. I remember our bus driver hit one and it was just a kitten, that poor woman was just heartbroken. Some of them came up to our house looking for food, too. Poor things weren't always fed, didn't really have a place to stay, and had no clue what affection was.

I'm glad.  I think that people who let their cats roam around outside are dumb and irresponsible.  Well done for keeping it safely inside.

My cats go inside and outside. We have 3, 2 stay outside and only come inside to eat and maybe sleep for an hour. One stays inside a lot because she was an inside cat before she got abandoned. But she still like being outside for a while.

For you you may wanna worry about him running away..depending on where you live.

The main shelters where I live will never put down a healthy cat. There is lots of room for them to roam around in and plenty of volunteers to give them love (I'm one of them), so I think even if they never get adopted, which is pretty rare, they still lead good lives.

To whoever said that people who let there cats roam around outside are dumb and irresponsible, why?

My cat spends like 95% of his time outside and about 5% inside. We don't have a way to keep him off the road. We've had him for eight years, and he hasn't been hit. He usually stays in our yard.

But we have a lot of land.

Cats love being outside, but I guess if you think your cat will cross the road or roam around the neighborhood, then you should not let him out on his own. Supervised visits outside are better than nothing. haha

I hope you're just joking. :)

Not allowing them to go outside period is just cruel and mean.

They're smart animals. I have never ever seen my cat cross the road. He occasionally goes into our next door neighbhor's yard, but she has cats as well and he gets to interact with them.

They are not designed to live inside a house all the time. lulz

I'm not joking.  My friends cats are indoor all the time and they're perfectly happy and they don't make my dog go nuts or kill small animals.

What's wrong with them killing small animals?

It's what they are designed to do. It's what they are supposed to eat...not shitty and non-nutritious cat food.

My cat will meow for hours at me if I don't let him outside when he wants to go. If you give cats the opportunity, they would love to spend more time outside than inside.

I'm sure they would.  But then again, they're stupid ainmals.  Their owners are supposed to balance out their tiny animal brains.
