It depends on the person, and their situation. I know some that are the scum of the earth, but I know a couple that are great guys, and the only reason they do it is to pay bills. Heck, one of my friends started so he wouldnt get kicked out school (he couldnt pay for next semesters classes), and its actually helped him alot. He got to stay in school, he got a job working for one of his professors, and between his job, and his "job", he can cover school, pay for gas, and live comfortably off campus. It all depends on the person.
