How to ask for a set schedule?

I got a new job in March when I was still in school. I worked around my school schedule, getting about 15-20 hours per week.

When school got out I opened up my schedule to any day, any time, and I thought I would get more hours. But we're pretty much overstaffed, and since I'm the newest one I usually get the least hours. I'm convinced there's no more hours available. This week I only got 12 hours.

So, I want to look for another part time job, because it seems useless to just have 12 hours a week sometimes. But since my schedule is sporadic, its harder for me to look for another job. How could I ask for a set schedule?

Just tell them, I need more hours so I'm getting a second job, will you be able to set up a certain schedule with me?

Depending where you work, you should get more hours if you mention it... especially since it's summer and stores get more customers... and where I work, if you want to get a set schedule or work only certain days, we have this thing called Availability where we can set or change our hours...

Just talk to the HR or whoever is in charge of scheduling and stuff. Tell them that you are in need of at least X hours per week and if there is anything that could be done about that.

Sounds like right now they're just using you and don't give a fuck how many hours you get, so the only way for it to change is for you to step forward and confront them about it. Then they'll be like "Whoa, an employee who knows how to stand up for themselves and ask for what they need!"

You gotta do it.
