Car turning off

I have a '95 Chevy Cavalier, and sometimes when I stop at a light or a stop sign, it will kind of shudder and then turn off. I will have to put it in park and crank it back up. Usually it cranks right back up, like it did today at a light, but then I had to stop at a stop sign and it took me three or four tries to crank it back up.

I was wondering if anyone would know what was wrong with it...My grandparents are saying maybe the fuel injector, but I have no clue. It just sucks having a car I'm scared to drive.

And it doesn't do it all the time, just sometimes. It can go for weeks without doing it at all, and then it can do it several times in a row.

its proberly "idling" too low, you'll need to adjust teh idle speed, in an old car like that it should just be a basic bolt and retaining nut

My boyfriend is saying that "idling" too low could be a problem if it was a carburated engine, but since it is fuel-injected, he doesn't think that could be the problem.

My sisters 98 Cavalier has the same problem, try putting premium gas in it, its more expensive but it helped my sisters car, it doesnt stall anymore.

That's what my grandpa was saying...He was telling me to put the fuel injector stuff in it and maybe that would help. I'm just so broke. lol. I can't afford premium gas...but I may try that.

for a start clean the mass airflow sensor if it has one. If its really dirty it can cause idling problems. Is the check engine light on? If so take it to a auto parts store and get them to run the code.
Oxygen sensor is also a possibility

well then get your boyfriend to start throwing parts at it before trying to clean the maf which costs about 5 dollars for a can of cleaner.

Your boyfriend apparently doesn't know jack fucking shit about cars then.

What you start with, is the mass airflow. If it's stalling, you COULD be having a bad reading from that sensor. That is why you have it cleaned.

If that doesn't do anything, the next thing is checking idle speed. Does it stop running in park, or only while in D, 3, 2, or 1? (You could maybe not have a 3, but only D, 2, 1 depending on the cavalier's transmission.

The next step would be checking your fuel filter which is under the car. Bad fuel flow at low rpm's could starve the engine of fuel, and it would just shut off.

Don't ask questions and then say it's not it, when you haven't even checked the car :/

premium fuel does nothing except prevent knock due to higher octane rating.

Okay well all Im saying is, my sisters Cavalier had a stalling problem, she uses premium gas, now presto, it doesn't stall anymore.
