I bought two cats.

So the day before yesterday I bought two 2-month-old kittens.  I was originally going to buy only one of them but they seemed to like each other and the person at the animal shelter said they were sisters.  So I bought both of them.  I used to have cats in the past but I had to sell them because I was young and couldn't care for them properly.

I went to the pet store and I bought a brush, some toys, a litter box, kitty litter, a shit-shovel, two different scratching posts, and some "premium" cat food although after reading Raven's sticky in this forum I'm starting to wonder how good it is and may give the cats human food.  Also, the person at the shelter said that they should be left in one room for three days while I check up on them periodically.  I feel a little bit bad (at least I'm going to release them tomorrow) for not letting them roam around the house but it is alledgedly so that they get to know me quickly, which is why I spend so much time with them in the bathroom.

What else should I be doing, and what other supplies do I need?

Hm, but the girl at the animal shelter said that water is the best thing to feed to cats.

What brand is the cat food? If it's a good brand, you'll probably be fine. As long as they are doing fine on it. BARF diet is definitely something you've got to have a lot of time and dedication for before you start it, that's for sure. But cats especially love it.

It sounds like you've got the place all ready for them. I'm sure they are going to be having a shit ton of fun when they're ready to come out and explore the place completely.
I hope you don't plan on ever declawing them. As far as I am concerned, it is abuse. I know many people disagree with that, and many people claim their cats do just fine without claws, but if those cats were ever in the position that they got outside and had to defend themselves, or climb a tree to protect themselves, they would be screwed, and probably end up as a meal because of their lack of claws.

^ oh, I agree. declawing should be made illegal in the U.S. I can't believe it hasn't yet.

The two brands that I bought were Meow Mix and Whiskas Temtpations.  I don't notice them eating a lot of the food I've been giving them, but I still shovel shit up from the litter box.  I'm also noticing that they're not drinking a lot of water, yet seem very hyperactive and not dehydrated in the least.  What is the BARF diet?

Yeah, the person at the shelter mentioned the costs and benefits of the declawing a cat, and I decided that I would not declaw them, that's why I bought them scratching posts so they can scratch their claws without having to tear up my furniture.  But I've never looked at it from your perspective though, however it makes a lot of sense.

Both of those are really low quality brands. If you can buy Nutro for them, it's sold in Petsmart. And in most higher end pet stores now. Things like Meow Mix, Whiskas, Chef's Best, Purina, all of that stuff has fillers that take up space to make you think you're getting more food than the cat really is. They get hardly anything they actually can easily digest, and almost nothing they actually need.
The BARF diet is Bones and Raw Food. Cats are carnivores, not omnivores, so those commercial foods, for the most part, are just horrible for them. But higher quality ones will be much better for them. They have less fillers, and some have no fillers, but they are more expensive.

Hm, thanks.  I'll look for Nutro then, I wasn't sure at first about the brand, I didn't know there was such a wide variety, haha.  I think I'll put them on the BARF diet too.  I only hope that, due to its name, does not make my kitties vomit, haha.

Just use the cat food for now. Doing both will be extremely expensive, and giving them such a variety of diets all at once will cause their intestines to become really irritated. You'll get very runny poopies in your litter box, and that's just eeeew. If you want to try BARF diet, do it later, when they are older and able to handle a good size piece of raw meat on their own and not fight over it, and when you're ready to only feed that, and give up the dry food completely, because they don't need both at the same time.

The Nutro will be good for them for now. They should have a kitten formula. If not, there's many other brands, I can easily help you find one online that you can order. I know a lot of holistic foods that are known for using ingredients that are actually people-quality.
