Thanks for the information.  Also, I bought some catnip for the cats but I'm told that 2-month-old kittens don't react to catnip or something?  Is this something that I should be giving my kittens or is dangerous at such a young age?

Hm, thanks.  I'll look for Nutro then, I wasn't sure at first about the brand, I didn't know there was such a wide variety, haha.  I think I'll put them on the BARF diet too.  I only hope that, due to its name, does not make my kitties vomit, haha.

if you decide to do the BARF diet, make sure you research it thoroughly and have your cats annually checked  for taurine deficiency.

oh, and dont declaw (i know you said you dont want to, but i still gotta say something haha).  It's a very simple procedure, but is more often than not completely unnecessary.

...when you're ready to only feed that, and give up the dry food completely, because they don't need both at the same time.

I dont know if you meant to switch without transition or not, but when changing ANY feeding program/diet it should be done slowly over the course of a few weeks, thus requiring that both diets be integrated at fed at the same time while slowly increasing one and decreasing the other.  Making a sudden switch can cause problems.

So...it's kind of like tapering off one medication and slowly replacing it with another.  At least that's how I understand it.  I guess I'll switch to another diet when this bag of cat food is done, I only want the best for my kitties

BARF should not be fed at the same time with dry food. It can cause digestion problems. Dry food is digested at an entirely different rate as raw meat and bones. It's not recommended to ever feed them at the same time.

you cannot suddenly switch an animals diet, especially a  switch that dramatic, and ESPECIALLY not with cats.

Most people I know who feed BARF diet switched cold turkey. With this diet, most people suggest it. It's the only diet that it is suggested in.
I have never known any dog or cat to be harmed or gotten ill by the switch. I have known some who have gotten ill due to being fed the two at the same time, though.
A healthy animal can tolerate the switch without a problem. Unless the animal already has problems, there shouldn't be an issue. If there is, then you switch gradually, but the two should never be fed at the same time, due to what I said before.

dogs can be easily switched cold turkey, and cats are another story.   They need a more gradual change.  It shouldnt take very long, two weeks at the most, but still should be fairly gradual.

get purina kitten chow.

Like I said, that's a low quality brand of food.

not really. there different grades of food. if you get purina from an actual pet store, it has less fillers than say food from wallmart. when they are kittens and cant digest food like adult cats can, its good for them. its like, if you give a baby cows milk, it will not be as good as giving a baby milk with "easy to digest comfort protiens. my cats can and do eat everything a human would plus their cat chow. my dogs on the other hand, i feed a complete human food diet. i can see you know your animal care stuff, so do you have any recomendations for meals that i can make for them and then freeze or refridgerate. they are st. bernards.

*just a note. they need kitten food because like someone said above, the adult diet IS too rich for their system and it has certain nutrients that (long story short) causes them to grow faster than their bodies can keep up with.

*another note: if they DO start scratching up your furniture, get 'soft paws' for them. they are little rubber caps for each claw that you can get at your vet's or even pet stores. the vet clinic where i work puts them on and shows you how so you can do it from then on. they really do work and they look cute too ;)

No Purina is good.
Look it up for yourself. They all contain fillers.
Sorry, but with the amount of research I've actually done on this subject, nothing you say is going to change the facts. Consumer reports are there to protect the consumer, but people fail to read them when it comes to their pet.

My mother woke me up this morning and bought two cans of a cat food called Natural Life.  The food is more mushy and not hard (the kitties were not eating much of the old, bad quality food) and I think there is some fish, ham, and turkey in there.

She also bought my cats a big playpen that they love to fool around in.  Also, Anthem and Dixie were kissing each other and licking each other's faces (cleaning each other I assume) and it was so adorable.
