I'd advise against any 12-step-program, mainly because they are too preachy for me and lots of the meetings are somber in church basements and I don't want to sit around talking about drinking with them, I'd rather do the drinking itself.

But yeah, since you are taking narcotic painkillers, you can join NA.

like you said theyre too preachy for YOU. that doesnt mean you should advise against them. most AA or NA meetings are somber in a church basement. maybe they didnt work too well for you because you dont want help. you just said youd rather do the drinking then talk about it. programs like that only work if you work it.

for the original poster, you can deffinately hit up an NA meeting or an AA actually. addictions all the same and it doesnt really matter what your drug of choice is. alcoholism and addiction to anything else works teh same way, it wants to kill you and youre helping it.
