In response to something from before... Quote: from Nikki at 1:44 pm on July 9, 2008

Personally, a big part of the reason I no longer deal with ehelps is because I don't like the system. I would really like to see the whole rating thing scrapped. .
Good point here. I agree with the ratings being a BIG problem. I remember once spending about half an hour on an eHelp reply and getting 1/4 for it.
I completely disagree in this manner. I don't need the points, but the ratings and the feedback are important to me. Part of the reason is my personality, and before a response, I typically no my answer. The feedback (as you don't always get written feedback) gauges my work, and also lets me know whether or not my analysis was on spot with the person's personality. This being said, when I get a bad rating, I typically know beforehand. In a sense, it's like a game for me. If that sounds horrible, I'm sorry. But I do need motivation, and part of that comes from feedback. If everyone gave something written, then it wouldn't matter in terms of numbers. Now... this being said, couldn't the system be altered to allow SLs to receive ratings or not? After you finish making the topic, you can decide whether or not you wish to receive a rating? If that makes sense...? But I guess a lot of you guys seem to be upset about it. Personally, I don't let a number judge my worth, no matter what someone else says. It's something to keep me motivated. But if it causes problems for most SLs, then my drop in e-helps would be countered by the rise in others... right?

Okay, why do people think that getting rid of guest submissions will make a difference?

Have you noticed the number of guest submissions we get? It may not make a huge difference, some guests become members, and then make another e-help. However, if you're a guest, you CAN'T post in the forums. I would assume that at least some of them might try the normal forums first... or otherwise, they may not bother making the e-help if they don't think it's important enough (and not to mention we could avoid the spam)
I agree here. Guests cannot post in the forum which practically leaves them no choice but to send in an eHelp if they have anything on their mind.

But some of those guest eHelps are such nonsense. They're not emergencies, at all.

Suggestions (my apologies if they have already been said somewhere) - I feel as though the guest system is fine. Part of what makes LiveWire popular is allowing guest entries, this has been said before. Guests should be prompted to create an account after they complete their eHelp.
- I feel as though a word minimum is a horrible idea, and should never be implemented.
- The rating system should be kept, but changed. Feedback should be almost required, or highly suggested.
- I like the categories SLs specialize in.
- t-help! Haha
- Before a member can start an eHelp, a popup box should come up that reads "Only continue if this is a serious emergency and this is not something you can post in the forums."

That's exactly what I'm trying to say. There needs to be a limit to guest submissions. Or, when a guest tries to submit an eHelp it forces them to create a user name. I mean, it takes 30 second for God's sake!
