Or, when a guest tries to submit an eHelp it forces them to create a user name. I mean, it takes 30 second for God's sake!

This is an idea I like.

This is an image I made a while ago for a different purpose, but I figured it's good enough. I don't believe guest ehelp submissions need to be disabled, but that stupid thing on the main page NEEDS to be taken off, because I'll betcha that's where all the shitty guest ehelps come from. It's right there, form-field style.

You've all seen the ehelps with the title that was cut off? Yeah, that's because someone started typing their ehelp in the field on the MAIN PAGE, (which when you click submit, becomes the title of your ehelp). This only occurs for guests, for whatever reason.

Disabling guests is fine too, but I remember from the past that David has been against that, so this lets people not have to sign up for a site, but still get questions answered.

I'm against the idea of disabling guests. We can put several reminders to them to create an account -- possibly after submitting an eHelp, a big huge button, and after reading a reply, a "like what you see? Sign up for a FREE LiveWire account today!".

Maybe we could LIMIT the amount of guest eHelps per week. Say, over two a week and they must create an account?

...write what you said here, no one is going to go back and check. that's the purpose of the topic

Okay, I'll put it all into this topic. :) Sorry if it's a bit long though.

I agree with Sabrina that there should be SOME requirement for support leaders, although I do believe one eHelp reply is a bit too tight. I was thinking, maybe twice a month. Just to make sure you're still here.

Another idea -- this may confuse things, but would it help to split the support leaders into two categories, and you can only apply for what you want? eHelp PSL's and forum PSL's. Maybe this will take the pressure off, and we won't feel like we're forcing people to support? eHelp support leaders would have to submit some amount of eHelp replies per some amount of time as discussed, but this way it's something we choose (to what Nikki mentioned).

It'll definitely minimize if not eliminate our frustration with the large amount of support leaders and the few of us that actually answer eHelps. As Nikki is mentioning, it would also solve the problem of having SLs who prefer to reply on the forums, and therefore are unable to submit the hypothetically required quota.

I don't think the whole who'd-go-where problem would be hard. We could just send a message out to all support leaders, letting them know that we are being divided into two categories, and it's up to them to reply within a week or so to what they'd like to be. We (the CURRENT support leaders of LW) would by default be both eHelp and forum support leaders, but all SL's must reply within a week saying whether they'd like to stay this way or be demoted. After the one week, those who haven't replied will just be sorted out by who has replied to an eHelp in the past 30 days. Those who have will remain eHelp SLs, those who haven't will be made forum SLs.

After this one week (it doesn't necessarily need to be this period of time, just whatever's decided), those who are forum support leaders will have to send in an application to go back up to an eHelp support leader.

We could just create a group where all SLs will post what they'd like to be so someones inbox doesn't get spammed.

It's not really that confusing when you think about it. It's just a pretty big change, so a bit hard for us to process.

I wrote about the whole re-appything thing in my previous reply.

About the whole doing both thing -- my initial assumption was that it would sort of be a rank thing. All eHelp support leaders would automatically be forum support leaders too (after all, what are we going to do, deny ourselves access to the support forums?), we'd just in addition have access to the eHelp system.

It'd also be a cool way for members to try out how they like being a support leader. If they're not quite sure, they can become forum support leaders before deciding they'd like to take the further step out and start tackling the eHelps.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said. I understand the idea for categorizing support leaders in theory, but I really think it'll be much too confusing and also limited. For one -- that's just for the forums. What about eHelps? Would people have to categorize their eHelps too, and then we'd only be able to answer to those which are our designated topic? I don't like the idea of being able to only answer a certain "type" of both eHelps and topics, I like to spread myself out through a variety of issues.

    More Comments:

  • I already posted this one, but thought I'd organize it into one reply:

I'm against the idea of disabling guests. We can put several reminders to them to create an account -- possibly after submitting an eHelp, a big huge button, and after reading a reply, a "like what you see? Sign up for a FREE LiveWire account today!".

Maybe we could LIMIT the amount of guest eHelps per week. Say, over two a week and they must create an account?

  • I agree with Khadgar about the main page. Instead of completely eliminating it, why don't we just add a bigger field? Under the small textbox we have, we'd add a larger field for elaboration, then the "Get help" and "There are  ___ support leaders online to help" buttons below that.

  • I completely agree with Barnabas about moving the eHelps to the forums rather than out-right deleting them. This is a very small change, but necessary in my opinion. We should, obviously, still be allowed to vote to delete in cases of spam and such, but unless the eHelp violates LiveWire's guidelines we should be able to report them so a moderator can move it to the correct forum. Unless, of course, you guys want to give this power to us support leaders. :P

Woo! That's all my feedback for now. :) I'm so glad we're finally taking a stand to redo this.... I just hope that David will see this topic and actually take action.

I definitely agree that the main page needs to be changed. Maybe just a link saying something like "Not a member? Get anonymous help now" and then it would go to the proper e-help page.

Sounds good. It's basically the same idea, just SOMETHING needs to be done about it. :)

I was just wondering -- when will these topics be locked? You said one week on the other topic, but how about these two?

I'll probably give it until next Friday. A week tomorrow, basically, 'cause I know people don't use this forum a huge deal.

    Suggestions
  • Ability for the OP to reply to their own eHelp to provide answers and support for SLs (along with the scrapping of the Serious Forum)
  • Remove eHelp rating system (keep feedbacks)
  • Categories of SLs to which area they specialise in and,
  • Before a member submits an eHelp they are presented with the list of online SLs and what each of their specialities is, so that they can get quicker support and would help to reduce the number of eHelps.

I agree with all of these plus the

  • No more ratings (but maybe required feedback?)
  • An insane pop up message with the rules and everything
  • No guest postings (alot of times, it also gets spammed with guests and that is the most annoying thing with eHelps)

We seem to be 50/50 here when it comes to ratings. Would people like the choice whether they want their reply to be rated? Then, if people want to be rated, they can be, and if not, they don't have to be?

I'd like to keep the written feedback though.

I'd like to keep the written feedback as well but get rid of the rating out of 4.

So you'd be for an optional rating - so each SL could choose whether they were rated or not?
