How do you think that your parents in general would feel if you were to call them by their first names?  Would they be offended?  Because I do this to show an air of mutual respect.

They'd probably think I no longer regarded them as my mum and dad, and no doubt it'd hurt them a bit. It wouldn't matter as such, they'd just be curious at the sudden change and wonder if they'd upset me somehow.

And my parents and I always respect eachother and we always talk like mature adults... er, mainly because we are. I don't think calling them mum and dad is a sign of disrespect or immaturity.

Yeah, I figured it would hurt them a bit when I made that sudden change too.  They probably do wonder what they've done to deserve it; either that or they already know.
