Being drunk is not an excuse for bad deeds. If the person cannot handle his alcohol then I would suggest to stay away from them when they are drinking. And keep an watchful eye out, if he does it again, then its time to part ways. Once, ok, avoid putting yourself in that same situation. Twice, it has nothing to do with you and all with them and its time to say goodbye.

Forgive them. Six years of friendship is worth saving if it was just one bad night.
I had something very similar happen (minus alcohol) but you just move on. Talk to them. I'm sure they feel really bad about it and if they can promise it won't happen again, just forgive and forget.
