ok so, its 5am for right now. i havent slept at all nor do i feel the least bit tired.

ive been reading twilight (yes yes i know)

and for fun i google vampires and one thing that caught my eye was something that said something to the effect of,"myths of vampires have been in virtually every culture"

could this be coincidence?

I believe that vampires came from people exaggerating the effects of insulin dependant diabetics without insulin.  the symptoms line up with early vampire descriptions almost exactly.

I think the subject of vampires is fashionable at the moment, so I stay well clear of it -^-

It is a case of people, who have a fascination for vampires, looking and finding universal traits where none such exist. People have a rather bad habit of categorising and forcing things together, which simply should not be.

I agree with The Oath. All cultures have death and corpse related superstitions, and you can slap the "vampire" label on them if you want, but there are few actual similarities between the myths and they certainly don't justify a belief in vampires.

The English term was derived (possibly via French vampyre) from the German Vampir, in turn thought to be derived in the early 18th century from the Serbian вампир/vampir.

Its from wikipedia.

I always thought that it was a Romanian word.
LoL, If there was no medieval Serbia, you'd probably be reading about 'strigois' (Romanian), and not 'vampires', XD.
