And it just gets worse and worse. I can't get any help for it, because my parents don't care, and think I'm just being an "ass", and are not taking me seriously. It has gotten to the point where the only thing going through my mind all day long is "I wish I was dead".

This is how i look at life: when i am becoming depressed, I look at the good side of life and notice that some things that i have are very hard to find in less privileged people. You have people that love you and a place to live. You need to tell your parents that your not being an Ass and your actually feeling depressed. If you want to be dead you need to rethink everything because your life is something you don't want to waste

You can get help. You dont need your parents to get help at all. Doctors or school is your best bet. Tell someone who can help. Friends can only do so much, an adult needs to know about this. If you really don't want to tell an adult, try keeping a feeling-diary for yourself, noting down your moods throughout the day, and trying to see if you can notice any triggers for your low mood episodes. You need to find a way to make someone take you seriously: this doesnt mean doing anything drastic like self-harming or a suicide attempt, it just means trying to explain fully how you feel to someone who can help. Parents often just shrug things off and blame mood swings on hormones, but it can be more than that, and they need to understand this before they drive you away. Can you think of anything specific that you have done that might have caused them to call you an "ass"? Think about what you might do differently to make them take you seriously and try and help you. If your parents are a no-go area, a form tutor, school cousellor or doctor are all good people to approach. Explain that you are struggling with low moods and you think you have symptoms of depression. There is only so much help i can give you over the internet: it is one-to-one proper help that you need really, but if there is anything i can do in the immediate future, please PM me. If there are no adults that you feel you approach, post back on here or PM me and i can try and think of alternatives for you. You dont need to die in order to feel better. I know it can be really difficult to lift yourself out of the negative mindset, but you should try. Keeping busy and occupied can help keep your mind off the darker thoughts, things like sport, reading, writing, watching absorbing tv or a movie, that sort of thing. And please try and get yourself some help x Post edited at 2:12 pm on Dec. 1, 2008 by sadnessness
