i'll admit i have unrealistic expectations from life
i am a very competitive, idealistic person
i know deep down i am not physically gorgeous
and i know deep down that i am not exceptionally intelligent
and i still don't want to face that and date someone right for me who also isn't one or a combination of these rare qualities
i always go after the ones who are smarter or better looking or both and i always end up in tears because they reject me
the average men make me happy but i just want to believe i'm hip and amazing and "up there" so i reject them

... i don't know what's wrong with me.

It's not complicated at all. What don't you get? She feels that she's not very pretty or smart. She only wants to date guys who are hot and smart, but they don't want to bother with her. She thinks she's too cool for average looking guys.

This said, I'll take intelligence over looks any day.
I mean, I don't really care about looks to begin with, but consider this: looks will fade, and looks will change. Intelligence is always there.
