As artist's it's our job to interpret. We interpret colour, value, form, composition, etc and string those together to make an image.
Work that only speaks one voice is stagnant. It rarely works. The closest form of artwork I can think of that pushes towards a single voice would be narrative illustration. But even then good narrative illustrations are interpreting the text in a way that provokes a thoughtful image for the reader.
