My boyfriend and I want to take up archery, but we don't know what to get to get started with. Does anyone have any advice on the types of bows/crossbows that are good for beginners?

Why should I stoop to the level common for most internet-addicted teens? Bad grammar and stupid attention grabbing trolling does not exactly get any good answers on any forum. Of course, 100% of the time, that is to be expected here, as the questions and answers are both immature and ignorant.

I hadn't thought of wiki to be honest, but they may very well have instructions on beginning archery. I am at the moment browsing archery websites, as those would be the best place to look, but I had hoped someone on here might steer me in the right direction.

I don't even know how to begin the hobby;
Do we need licenses to have bows and arrows?
Do we need to go through classes?
Can we do this recreational or do we need to sign up for one of those group hobbiest things?

If we do this freelance, if we even can, I think that would be the most difficult to learn from, but classes tend to be expensive and time consuming, and these two factors are hard to work around.

No, you don't need a license to own a bow. You would only need a license if you intended to hunt with it, in which case you'd have to get a hunting license.

You don't need to go to any classes either. You just go to a store and buy it and then you can do whatever you want with it.

I personally wouldn't take a class if I was starting out in it, I've shot quite a few bows and crossbows, it's pretty straightforward and only requires experience to be able to aim it effectively, which you'll gain in time. You could probably just research a little bit about proper form on the internet and that'd provide you with enough basis to excel from there.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. So now I just have to figure out what equipment to buy.

Recurve bows are good to start with and titanium arrows are the best I've found. If you want to do archery alone you'll also need an target, made from straw or hay.
Theres always places to can visit that loan you the bows, arrows and targets for a few hours.
Oh, you don't need a license.
Don't need to go through classes.
You can do it along, no NEED to sigh up.
