She is pop and Bob Dylan was very easily recognizable as a folk musician. Later in his career he got more rock n roll and poppy with some of his songs, which people got mad at him for, but he was very much folk.

Plus I can easily say if I put on Bob Dylan people generally cringe, but Ashlee Simpson has pop songs that have been on the radio.

First, there is a difference between not having a fantastic voice and having no talent.  When Ashlee debuted, people thought (and still thinks) that she has no talent.  That was never said about Dylan.

Yeah, when Dylan first came out, people didn't think that he had the greatest voice, but spoke for generations with his lyrics.  He is an icon.  Where is Ashlee's "Desolation Row," "The Times Are A-Changin'" or "Shelter from the Storm?"

And no, she isn't folk.  She's a no talent popstar.
