1.Thread a string about 1m long through the holes of plastic, slotted ball.
2. swing ball in vertical circle.
3.Swing the ball different speeds and observe the motion of the ball and the tension in the string.

What force does the string exert on the ball when the ball is at the top, sides and bottom of the string?
How does the tension in the string depend on the speed of the ball?

If you call them nerds they're not going to help you.

But sorry, I really don't know.

the string is constantly exerting a centripetal force on the ball. When the ball is not yet to the end of the string, the centripetal force is keeping the ball rotating in a steady circle. When the ball is at the end of the string the centripetal force is keeping the ball rotating around the centerpoint (your hand). The tension on the string depends on the ball because as the ball swings faster, it has more rotational inertia, that is to say that as the ball goes faster it wants more and more to fly off in a direction tangent to the circle. Thus, the string must work harder to keep the ball moving around the centerpoint
